My heart wavers between figuration and abstraction…

Philippe Juttens, a Belgian-born artist based in Geneva since 1989, develops a pictorial practice where technical precision and gestural freedom enter into dialogue. Trained at the Saint?Luc Institutes in Tournai and Brussels, he has built a career shaped by a mastery of classical figuration and an ongoing exploration of abstraction.

His approach to oil painting is rooted in the technique of glazing, a skill inherited from his studies in decorative painting. At the same time, he explores the delicacy of watercolor and pencil to capture the atmosphere of Geneva’s lakeside, the Alpine reliefs, or Venetian architecture.

This duality fully emerges in his high?mountain landscapes, his studies of gondolas, or his depictions of the Belle Époque CGN boats. The precision of structures and contours meets the immateriality of natural elements; the artist combines figurative detail with broad gestural strokes, transforming mist and clouds into a space of expressive freedom.

A former graphic design teacher, he continues to share his knowledge today by giving art?history lectures, an activity that enriches his own artistic gaze. His work, recognized by certifications from Christian Sorriano and Akoun with valuations ranging from 500 to 2000 CHF, is part of a continuous quest for atmospheric poetry.
