BIOGRAPHY

DEFFONTAINE was born in Paris (France).

Secondary education and art studies

(Arts Décoratifs and Beaux-Arts).

1962 Study and travel in Europe, the Near

East and North Africa.

1966 Private exhibitions (Paris, Avignon) of his

first period "Grotesques".

1967 Mystical crisis, introspection, esotericism,

writing.

1968 Abrupt switch from figurative realism to

symbolic expressionism. Is involved, at the centre

of the student movement, in the events in Paris in

May 1968.

1969 Period of geometric eroticism and of his

"Secret Museum". Regular stays in Morocco

and Tunisian from 1969 to 1972.

1971 Successive trips to Italy (Florence, Roma

and Venice). Pilgrimage to the great museums of

Europe. Pictorial and literary research.

1972 Leaves Paris to take up residence in the

hills behind Nice.

1981 Study tour in Egypt.

1984 Transition from figuration to abstract

expressionism in oil and in large format.

1986 Move to the South West of France; a time

of retreat, of work and of research.

1988/1994  Shares his life, his work between

Nice, Paris and Aquitaine.

1995/2009 Voluntary interruption of the

personal exhibitions. Puts itself set back from

the market of the Art. Its work of graphic and

pictorial researches dedicates itself to the

writing and to the poetry by continuing.
