Born in Montreal Canada, Lucy Matta found herself influenced from an early age by her favorite artist...her grandfather Arthur. He shares with her the recipes of his natural talent by letting her paint by his side as he guides her. Together, they take on a naive yet complex subject...clowns!
As years pass, Matta holds on to her creative nature without exploring it to its full capacity.
In 1997 she enrolls in an interior design program where she is introduced and takes a liking to mediums such as pastels, aquarelles and charcoal sketching of the human body.
It is in the following years that Matta built a clientele consulting them on their home designs and specializes in faux finis.
It is, however, after the birth of her daughter in November 2002 that she discovers her passion to paint. "Sometimes passions are idle inside of us waiting to be triggered by a life changing experience." During her maternity leave the Africa collection took its first breath.
Why Africa? Matta admits to feeling the innocence she once had as a young child in this very complex subject which she continues to aquire knowledge of with each painting.
Matta distinguishes herself by integrating different materials such as bamboo and fabrics in her art work.
