It is in 1995 that Heller founded his personal mode of expression. He started to draw peculiar figures evolving in a minimalist decor. Handling gallows humour and provocation, he refines his world slowly and surely in several years and a hundred of comic-strips, which are rapidly published in various underground fanzines and art magazines.
From 1999, Laurent Heller has a go at new techniques, as sculpture, molding in resin, furniture design, and even the cartoon. But it’s in the experimentation of acrylic painting that he finds the tool the most adapted to his inspiration and his artistic projects.
Passing progressively from black and white to the red, the yellow, and then to more and more lively colours, the artist dedicates himself and for several years exclusively in painting acrylic on canvas. Without ever disavowing the libertarian (and libertine) spirit which lived in his first works, Heller likes to surprise. In his living and poetic pictures suspended in their movement, the artist enjoy himself diverting the codes of the comics, and introduces us a job in perpetual evolution, somewhere between comics and pop-art.
