Valérie Stapleton - Enter the gallery

I was born in France during the student revolution of 1968. After finishing my studies I obtained a diploma in Fashion Design and Illustration in the Franco American school in Paris. Following several jobs in the fashion design field I went back to school and trained as a layout artist in the Ecole Estienne.

Having a desire to discover the wider world I then travelled to London, and went on to live in the Isla de la Palma in the Canary Islands where I drew inspiration from the incredible natural beauty of the caldera. Returning to England I married and we moved to France where I now live and work in the country in the centre of France with my husband and our four children.

The shapes and colours of the natural world inspire my work, and I also derive great pleasure from the nude female form. My work is principally in oil and acrylic on canvas.

My favourite quotation (in French I’m afraid): “Le dessin n’est pas la reproduction de la forme, mais l’expression de sa personnalité à travers l’écriture de cette forme”
