MICHEL MURTY

(Painter, Songwriter, Composer, Performer)

« Michel MURTY's family has the sadness to announce you its death on September 16th, 2015. »

Michel MURTY was born in Paris.

After a turbulent schooling, his love for painting and songs became obvious.

In 1952, Michel Murty won a place in the Estienne School of Graphic Arts in Paris where he qualified in photoengraving and chromatography 4 years later.

He then moved on to working in this branch in various Parisian workshops whilst

simultaneously studying drawing and painting at the Paris School of Applied Arts, as well as classical guitar. It was during this period that he held his first exhibitions and wrote his first songs.

In 1958, he won first prize in the Deauville International Painting Grand Prix for portraiture with his ‘Self- Portrait with Palette’ and ‘Portrait of Annie’.

He became more and more passionate about Fine Arts and song-writing and so he decided to entirely devote himself to both.

In 1975, he brought these two means of expression together and for many years put on his show “Songs to Paint Time”.

His evolution: first, classical painting, then a trend towards simplification (Marquet and Cézanne influence) followed by an opening towards an explosion of reality, to a truth experienced as if “through the lens of a kaleidoscope”.

For thirty years now, alongside his personal creative projects, Michel MURTY has conducted painting workshops and mural projects.
