Quick access : Leflot Gallery | ![]() Born in 1935 in Seraing During is childhood, José Leflot enjoyed spending hours drawing. It should be said that it was a rather turbulent child and that his mum had offer him a big box of colouring pencils to have a bit of tranquility. He did not leave it anymore ! At primary school, he started to draw lines and curves on the section of his books then , by moving the pages , he was imitating a kind of jerked movement similar to the beginnings of the cinema. At the age of 18, he subscribed to the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels to learn perspective, charcoal and anatomy drawing technics. He graduated with the 1st price. During that time, he had the chance to meet one of his neighbour, the painter Albert Peeters who was kind enough to open his workshop to José and give him the opportunity to learn the technics of portrait painting and drawing. But life is life and José had to work in a publicity agency during a few years although it was not what he expected... In 1972 he decided to devote himself to painting. Since then, years after years he slowly moved to abstraction and to his current method of expression, based on optical illusion and kinetics technics.
