The Tate Sisters Biography

Emeline and Claudia Tate are sisters and artists. As siblings, they exert a constant influence on each other when developing their art, providing one another with a steady stream of both inspiration and constructive criticism.  They work together with one vision and twice the inspiration.

Bold colours, shapes, images and typography are used to express their ideas – which are inspired by things seen and by personal experiences. Fabrics such as canvas and denim provide a starting point that influences the tone of the work — be it light or dark.  Acrylic, oil, or gloss paint is then applied in blocks, or stenciled.

Emeline has recently moved to California, while Claudia continues to live and work in London.  This is an exhilarating and challenging time for them both. An ocean apart, they are maintaining their artistic collaboration online, sending photographs of work in progress to each other through cyberspace.  They have participated in over twenty exhibitions in London and four in California. The Tate Sisters continually display art in their house in London and use the ground floor as a gallery which is open by appointment.
