Biography

Born in Sarajevo and based in Quebec since 1994, she has pursued many forms of artistic expression since childhood: piano, writing, literature, decorating and painting. At age 10 she participated in her first painting competition and she won second prize. Her passion for art has evolved over the years, and she has recently channeled her ambitions towards the canvas. While working as a businesswoman, she has nurtured her creative abilities by painting on her own and improving her techniques through local art courses and workshops.

For her, art is always a possibility, not an end result, an inspiration for everyone from the creator to the general public.

Artistic approach

Nature has always been my true inspiration. It drives my inner passion by its overwhelming beauty, the harmony of its colors throughout each season and region, its contrasts, its immensity, its force and even its fragility. I paint my memories, my emotions and the feelings that nature transmits to the depths of my being. My hands, my brushes, and my spatulas follow through what my subconscious sings to me. In my works, I do not attempt to reproduce a photograph. For me it would only subtract from a role already well-accomplished.

According to my emotions, each pictorial space is presented with a superposition of different materials and layers which are at times direct and other times obscure. A variety of textures and contours form an integral part of my works. My trials and experimentation are unveiling my artistic language. My approach is based on freedom, exploration, and the utilization of a variety of media such as acrylic, pastels, charcoal and ink.

For me, art requires patience, perseverance, and continuous practice. To discover our own artistic voice, I believe one must be prepared to fail in order to succeed, to cede control to gain control, and be open to possibilities never before imagined. In fact, art is a pilgrimage for me where I discover my own flame. It constantly shines from the inside out, firmly rooted in the essence that nourishes life itself.

For all these reasons, I nearly completely abandon the figurative in favour of total abstraction or the boundary of abstraction. This approach forces me to question myself at the deepest level. I am totally dependent on my inner knowledge where we draw automatically from our origins: our feelings, our intuition and imagination.

I dare to say that abstract art is itself the projection of our interior, our imagination and our creativity.

And as Jean-Paul Riopelle said so well:

“ For me, painting is never a reproduction of an image.”
