 Born in Verona in 1973. The painter Matteo Ruffo has moved his first steps in the artistic field relatively late. After high school leaving qualification he decided to develop his inner interests: visual arts. On the other hand, he has been fond of drawing since he was a child and, as the years went by, he took more and more confidence with color and pictorial techniques.
A heterogeneous formation (restauration, graphic design, illustration) in the following ten years, allowed him to develop various methods and to enrich his cultural background. More over, thanks to this passion he has met a lot of intresting people. The most important meeting surely has been with his master Giorgio Scarato, from whom he has learnt some pictorial techniques with a even more professional approach.
From this period on his working collaborations started, first of all with publishing houses, for wich he has created illustrations for tales and book covers, and later with advertising agencies that ordered him creative graphic works.
The painting path of Matteo Ruffo, abandoned a first figurative period, has been explicity oriented towards expressionism and historical aristic movements such as the New York School, Cobra Group, Gutai, and the fascinating Fluxus philosophy. These artistic experiences - still relevant nowadays for its spirituality and its total idea of an Art that departs from any aestethic concept of it - allowed Ruffo to develop an intresting route of creative research.
