Born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Daryl’s devotion to art dates from  early childhood.  Primarily self taught ,but with decades of experimentation in various media,  his passion for acrylic paint and graphite pencil grew.“I just don’t know how I got started drawing. It’s just one of those things I have always done.  I have been painting since the early 1970s and most of my paintings are done in  realism or in a photo realistic manner.  However, beyond simply depicting subjects in a realistic way, I hope that each of my paintings has elements of abstraction as well as occasionally displaying a touch of   humor .  I like to use acrylics, which can be opaque or transparent, applied in layers of thin washes that allow each preceding color to influence the layers on top of them. These paints are fast-drying and considered to be a "hard-edged" medium. So I use a variety of techniques—such as working wet-into-wet and drybrushing—to obtain soft edges."

“I'm compelled to paint images that interest me, not just those, others tell me will sell.  I've always preferred the challenge of image making without limiting myself to any particular subject matter. Whether it be landscapes, figurative, portraits, animal images or whatever, I simply enjoy responding to new experiences and encounters wherever I find them. As a self-taught artist, I am constantly evolving with my work. I absorb as much knowledge as I can  from books, magazines, articles or discussions with various artists , I am constantly striving to improve my art. I am truly a “worker” in progress, and I intend to continue my journey of growth with the arts, until I reach my full potential”.

Daryl's work has been accepted into numerous juried shows and his art is  represented in various private collections across Canada and the United States.  He currently maintains a studio in his home near St.Paul, NB, Canada.
