Maria Poliansky - Aaria is a Canadian award winning artist living and working out of her studio in Montreal, Quebec.

She has chosen the name Aaria to sign her art, which is her very common first name Maria with a replaced letter M. This underlines her vision of art as a continued process of joy, play and originality in every aspect of creation.

After receiving Bachelor of Applied Arts & Design degree she continued her studies by working and collaborating with many experienced artists.

During Maria’s more than 20 years of art making, she has worked in drawing and mural painting, batik on silk and textile design, printmaking (mostly etching and monotype) and painting. Painting, however, always has been one of her favorite mediums.

In her current paintings Maria uses oil, alkyd, acrylic, mineral pigments and mixed media to explore the phenomena of color to form her inner world and transfer it onto the canvas.

Her creative method includes the study of nature, constant experimentation with visual ideas and design based on the extensive arsenal of technical skills she has developed.

The style of her recent paintings ranges from abstract to more representative works, and sizes from small intimate pieces to huge canvases comparable to murals.

As an exhibiting artist, Maria’s work has been presented on several prestigious international shows, including the 1st International Biennial (BIMP) in Vancouver, Canada, where she got Special Jurors Acknowledgement for the work “The Nest II”.

Maria has received many accolades including being one of several Canadian artists selected for a touring international exhibition “Relativities”, organized by Off-Centre Gallery, Bristol, and Bristol City Museum & Gallery (a tour of 13 galleries in England, Wales, Scotland and Seattle, USA, 2000-2003).
